Dementia: Understanding The Disorder, Caring For The Person

The Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners certifies that this program meets the criteria for 3 credit hours of Category I continuing education for social workers and associates licensed in Maryland.

This workshop will help you to recognize, assess, and work more effectively with individuals with dementia and their caregivers. The difference between aging related forgetfulness and early warning signs of dementia will be discussed, along with an overview of the stages & treatments for Alzheimer's disease & dementia. You will also learn practical techniques & strategies for caring for persons with dementia based on the person centered care philosophy.

Mental Health and Aging: Early Recognition & Intervention

This workshop will help you to understand, recognize early warning signs, and intervene with older adults experiencing mental health problems. Suicide & substance abuse in older adults will be addressed and practical strategies for interacting & communicating with older adults that are having mental health issues will be discussed.

Working With Caregivers of Aging Relatives

The Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners certifies that this program meets the criteria for 3 credit hours of Category I continuing education for social workers and associates licensed in Maryland.

This workshop will help you to identify & understand the physical, emotional & psychosocial stressors that family caregivers of aging relatives are experiencing, and help you to communicate and work more effectively with them. Stressors related to providing health care services will also be addressed, enabling you to guide the staff members on your team to understand, empathize, and work more effectively with family members. Basic, practical stress management techniques & strategies that work for both family members and health care providers will also be discussed.
